My son and his girlfriend popped around this evening to eat with me. Charli (gf) is a lovely young woman. I showed her what "yarnbombing" was yesterday and mentioned my idea about yarnbombing Oakwood Clock. She is artistic, talented in sewing and very interested in textiles - her current career is as a junior stylist in a smart hair salon. She's always shown an interest in my bits and pieces, and was knocked out by a feather and fan scarf I gave her some time ago. Tonight, she suddenly asked if I could show her how to knit. I picked up a half dishcloth I had and demonstrated the basic garter stitch. What a talent! Her first row was a little tighter than my own tension, the second matched mine perfectly! Not that I'm saying it should - simply that she spotted the need to change her OWN tension!
She has now skipped off with a little project bag, a pair of needles, a couple of balls of yarn and 2 inches of a basic garter stitch scarf which I cast on for her - she has done all the rest. Watch out world, here comes Charli!
There is nothing more satisfying than "passing it one" is there? Or the half-bemused, half-thrilled look on your own child's face?
