I live in a part of Leeds called Oakwood, very close to Roundhay Park (which some of you may have heard of, as it's a place sometimes used for big concerts - The Stones, Michael Jackson, Robbie Williams etc)
Our local landmark is "Oakwood Clock" - I can't manage to get a pic in here but it's on Google Images. It's a sort of little clock tower which was originally made for Leeds' Market (where Marks and Spencers started with one stall). The clock didn't fit in with the eventually remodelled market, so was moved to Oakwood.
It is over 100 years old now, and a campaign/charity has been started to give it a facelift and underpinning. I think this will cost about £120,000 or so. No council or govt help available. There are various local activities going on to help.
I was showing my lads what "yarnbombing" was on Google images - they were amazed. That has given me an idea ...... I have just contacted the organisers with the suggestion of a yarnbombing of the clock, for extra publicity/whatever, and offered help if they are interested. So many schools, libraries and groups are starting up for knit and crochet, I thought that a combined effort might be fun. It's not a big clock tower, but hitting the nationals could help.
And it is entirely possible that it might bust some of my stash!
