Yayy and thank you - I have indeed noticed that crochet grows faster - especially on a granny blanket (which my granny had made loads of). That is my ambition! x

You are joining the last chain to the top of the doorstep, aren't you? Like this: TTT***TTT If you can't get your hook through the top of the three starting chain just do a slip stitch into a hole of some sort near the top, so you can go on practising. Plenty of time in future to find the exact right place to join. You're not trying to win a prize (yet).

Hmmm, I think I need to do the slip stitch where I can for the mo - I just don't seem to be able to get it into the beginning chain.
D'you know, the way you explain it makes more sense to me than others! Must be the way our brains work!
